T R A I N D R E A M S by Samant Chauhan

Presented at Amazon India Fashion Week, 2017

This year the Amazon India Fashion Week witnessed an incredible fashion presentation by Samant Chauhan at The National Rail Museum, New Delhi. The show titled ‘Train Dreams’ was inspired by Samant’s nostalgia about his Childhood memories of the Railways.

The National Rail Museum is a tribute to the Indian Railways that has taught many about the beauty of travel and has made us unafraid of the unfamiliar in many ways than one and was truly the most perfect venue for showcasing this unique collection. His most recent trip was in the Brahmaputra Mail, he saw the beautiful golden fields of Assam, the hills, the rivers and songs…he also decided to work with the unique golden threads of Muga silk which is feared to be at the brink of Extinction in Assam, it is also known as  Ahimsa / peace silk,- As no worms are injured or killed during the making of the yarn.

Samant was able to share his childhood memories by transferring them into

Silhouettes, into embroideries, into each stitch of the garments presented in his Autumn Winter, ’17 collection.

Earthy hues like Ivory, off white, vanilla, eggshell white and cream where the base hues of the entire collection and accents of Gold Zari were seen in forms of intricate hand embroideries, each representing a memory with it’s elements.  Corn, maze and wheat fields gleaming under a glorious sun as the train moves past them, this feeling of purity and serenity was beautifully encapsulated in Samant’s collection, dominated by his signature Indo-western framed silhouettes we saw anarkali jackets, Floor Length A line dresses, off shoulder- crop tops, and Long jackets paired with delicate circular skirts. French knots intertwined with sequins , hand made zari buttons outlined jackets and tops. Many variations of  exageraated short and long sleeves were  also seen.

Complementing the entire look were leather boots by Alberto Toreseso, The makeup was clean and minimal with subtle shades of brown and violet on the lids and the Hair was crafted to look like Muga Silk Cocoon’s and looked absolutely stunning.

Samant also hand crafted elegant leather bags with elements of Muga Silk, the entire presentation was an amalgamation of his memories with fabric.

An exclusive indo-western menswear line was also showcased which saw structured fitted jackets with some androgynous statement looks.

The highlight of this show was definitely the ambience and the Jazz music that was inspired by Jamalpur, a colonial town in present day Bihar.

The entire concept and feel of the show was beautiful and truly took everyone present on journey of reminisce.
