Assam People’s Welfare Association (APWA) is celebrating the onset of the Assamese New Year, Rongali Bihu at Noida on 13th April, 2019 at RWA Community Centre, Sector 122, Noida. APWA is the representative organization of the Assamese Community based at Noida and other adjoining places of the Trans Yamuna areas of Delhi NCR. APWA Rongali Bihu 2019 is in its 6th edition and the focus of the one day event would be to promote Assamese culture through an array of competitions and performances related to the Bihu Dance, renditions of folk songs as well as modern Assamese music. This year’s event is focused on the theme of Rivers of Assam, which have traced the evolution of the primarily river valley Assamese civilization since ages. The premises will be designed in the form of enclaves named after ten major rivers of Assam to reflect a microcosm of the greater Assamese society in the event. Prominent artists and dance troupes are being brought from Assam to regale the audience with their performances like Madhumati Goswami, Jitul Sonowal and the famous duo Chandan Das & Dimpy Sonowal who performed at the event.
“The intention of promoting Assamese culture in Noida is to achieve the twin objectives of creating a bridge with our roots as well as create awareness amongst other non Assamese communities based here. The non Assamese crowd has progressively increased evinced its interests in the Bihu over the past five years”, said Geetartha Darshan Barua , President of APWA.
