Plot:
Omerta is a 2018 biographical crime drama film. This film is based on the 1994 kidnapping of Western tourists in India by Omar Saeed Shaikh, a British terrorist of Pakistani descent. The story focuses on the life of Omar and his role in the kidnapping and murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in 2002. The film employs a blend of real-life events, TV news footage along with the cold and clinical performance of the actor Rajkumar Rao. Omerta much like Shahid and Aligarh depicts the life of a man who doesn’t fit into the society. The character of Omar is driven by hate and prejudice with a sense of undoing the wrong that has been done to the community.
Cast & Characters:
The film gives a sneak peak into the mind of Omar Saeed Shaikh, a most wanted terrorist who was linked to the Mumbai terror attack of 26/11 and the terror attack of 9/11, played by Rajkumar Rao. This was undoubtedly one of the most challenging roles played by Rajkumar Rao and he truly did breathe life in the character of Omar Saeed Shaikh.
Rajkumar Rao’s on screen transformation from a London School of Economics dropout to a terrorist who murdered Daniel Pearl was certainly very bone-chilling. The film also stars Rupinder Nagra as Maulana Ismail and Rajesh Tailang as General Mahmud. Directed by Hansal Mehta, known for his work of Shahid, City Lights & Aligarh, Omerta is a riveting movie with a path breaking performance by Rajkumar Rao.

- Omerta is undoubtedly one of the best movies I have seen in awhile.
- With a documentary style making & a run time of 90minutes this movie is to the point and has no unnecessary frills to it. It covers every dark aspect of the protagonist Omar Saeed Shaikh.
- Rajkumar Rao has once again showcased his diverse acting skills through the chilling demeanour of Omar.
- The gripping plot along with the strong performance by Rajkumar Rao definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat.
- The film also shows the perfect balance between the present day Omar as a terrorist and the past history of Omar before he became a terrorist which in turn leaves the viewers wanting more.
